When God comes knocking

June 21, 2012 - 5:00 am

“I slept but my heart was awake.
    Listen! My beloved is knocking:
‘Open to me, my sister, my darling,
    my dove, my flawless one.
My head is drenched with dew,
my hair with the dampness of the night’.” — Song of Solomon 5:2

King Solomon writes “I slept but my heart was awake.” How can a person be both asleep and awake at the same time? As you probably guessed, Solomon wasn’t referring to a physical condition; he was referring to a spiritual one. A person can be spiritually asleep, and yet even as they slumber, something deep inside of them remains wide awake. Somewhere deep within there is a feeling of emptiness, discomfort, and restlessness.  Even when the body is asleep, the soul does not experience tranquility.

“Listen! My beloved is knocking . . . ” Even the deepest sleeper can be awakened. There are times in our lives when we hear the Lord knocking at our door. It can be during times of great joy – like the birth of a child or a marriage. Or it can be at times of great sorrow – like losing a loved one or going through a serious illness.

It can really be any time at all. Sitting underneath the stars or hiking up a great mountain – at some point everyone experiences, however so briefly, what can only be described as the Divine. They are moments of clarity and awe. They are the moments that encourage us to be better and become greater. But more important than those moments themselves are the minutes that follow.

How do you respond when God comes knocking on your door? Do you get up and let Him in? Do you make the changes that you are inspired to make? Sadly, the woman in the Song of Solomon hesitates.  She has just gotten into bed and she doesn’t want to dirty her feet.  Eventually, she decides that getting her feet dusty is a small price to pay for the gift of seeing the love of her life, but by the time she gets to the door, he is already gone.“I opened for my beloved, but my beloved had left; he was gone. My heart sank at his departure” (Song of Solomon 5:6). A moment’s hesitation can lead to a lifetime of regret.

Don’t be that woman.  When God pays you a visit – when you get a flash of inspiration or you are suddenly clear about your path in life – don’t think it over too much. When God is at your doorstep, let Him in!  Let Him into your life and let Him change your life.

thank you for this explaination of these verses from the Song of Solomon! Now I understand that when a flash of inspiration or I am suddenly clear about something, that it is God paying me a visit!!
Now, being aware of what that means, I know how to pray to recognize that God is paying me a visit!! How awesome that is!!!
Lord, help me to know when these things are a visit from you!!
I ask this in JESUS NAME, AMEN !

Wow.How amazing. Here I am sitting with pen and paper.I began to write to my self to call on the Lord as I experienced a feeling of restlessness, unfulfilled dreams and visions, a strong sense and urge to get up, embrace and walk in my vision and purpose from God.I wrote on paper the things I feel in my spirit such as .1)Physically, spiritually, and mentally relocating, 2)Remove self from my current negative environment and mental drainage,3) Surround myself with people of higher spiritual degree and purpose,4)Lord help me to be obedient to your call and gifts you bestowed on me .As I am writing , I opened my email, and as you know, here it is”When God comes knocking”. This is specifically for me .Its almost prophetic in nature.Thank you.I need your prayer and help

BAM, RABBI—-THIS WAS A GOOD ONE. THEY ALL ARE GOOD, BUT SOME OF YOUR DAILIES GOT A REAL PUNCH TO THEM. THIS WAS ONE OF THEM!!!!

ADONAI / YESHUA / THE RUACH HAKODESH, FREQUENTLY VISITS ME, BUT USUALLY NOT WHEN I AM SLEEPING. I AM SITTING ON THE THRONE, RIDING MY HARLEY, TAKING A SHOWER, REPAIRING SOMETHING MY SHOP, OR MOWING MY ACREAGE WITH MY RIDING MOWER. WHEN I TELL OTHER BELIEVERS, THEY EITHER SAY “AMEN BROTHER” OR GIVE ME THE UNSPOKEN “YOU MUST BE NUTS” LOOK WITH THEIR FACE. BARUCH HASHEM !!

I think these devotionals are the greatest things!!! God gives them to me in a way only I can understand:@) here in America “what’s left of her”, I know ALOT of pastors who could really
Be blessed by these!! If they would just let themselves… Being stuck in denominational bondage and doctrinal correctness that every other church has got it wrong.. Were the only ones with THE TRUTH… it’s our way or the highway MANTALITY of many pastors.. What a GOLD MINE they’re missing from your devotionals!! You see it ” rings with me deeply these you write bcz I am a Jew born without ever knowing I grew up in Christian schools & now I have a Hebrew man ( you) who has the tears & love of God for all of us poor sheep ;@)
    T h a n k y o u. Once again :@)

I am impressed with your ability and passion to collaborate with Jewish colleagues whom we love deeply and pray for daily as well as for Christians whom God has called my wife and me to lead globally.
